Ambasador discusses bilateral scientific cooperation with the President of the Romanian Academy
On February 13 Ambassador Violeta Motulaitė met with the President of the Romanian Academy, prof. Ioan-Aurel Pop, and discussed the prospects for the bilateral scientific cooperation.
A cooperation agreement between the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and the Romanian Academy has been signed in 1994 – since then both Lithuania and Romania joined the EU and NATO, as well as a number of different international scientific and research organisations, which opened new possibilities for cooperation between the Lithuanian and Romanian scientists. Romanian Academy is interested in strengthening its relations with the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and updating the existing cooperation agreements. Prof. Pop also expressed his wish to renew the relations between the Babeș-Bolyai and Vilnius universities, which reach all the way back to the period of the Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth – just like Vilnius University, the university in Cluj has been founded in the 16th century by the Jesuit Order.
Romanian Academy is a non-political organisation whose main goals are the cultivation of the national language and literature, study of the national history, research into major scientific domains, and promotion of democratic and ethical principles of free communication of ideas in Romanian sciences, arts and letters.
