Lithuanian Parliament Speaker visits Romania, brings business delegation
Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament, Mr. Viktoras Pranckietis, was in Bucharest on October 15-17 with an official visit, upon the invitation of the President of the Romanian Senate, Mr. Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu. During his visit, Mr. Pranckietis had meetings with Mr. Popescu-Tăriceanu, President of the Chamber of Deputies Mr. Liviu Dragnea, representatives of the Romanian-Lithuanian parliamentary friendship goup and other member of the Romanian Parliament, as well as with the Government representatives - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Environment Ms. Grațiela-Leocadia Gavrilescu and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Teodor Meleșcanu.
During the meetings, interlocutors underlined the active Lithuanian-Romanian political dialogue, shared interests and positions in the EU and NATO frameworks, including the security and defence of the NATO Eastern flank. Among the topics discussed were the issues of the Eastern Partnership, EU future, security and defence, intensification of the bilateral economic and cultural ties.
On October 16th Mr. Pranckietis opened the 2nd Lithuanian-Romanian business forum, organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuanian in Romania together with the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Romanian Honorary Consul in Lithuania, Ms. Laura Kovaliovaitė. The business forum was attended by 8 Lithuanian and 29 Romanian companies.
During the visit, Mr. Pranckietis was accompanied by other members of the Lithuanian Parliament: Head of the Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with Romania, Mr. Algirdas Sysas, Member of the European and Foreign Affairs Committees, Ms. Rūta Miliūtė, Member of the European Affairs Committee, Mr. Virgilijus Poderys, as well as the Foreign Affairs Advisor of the Speaker, Ambassador Kęstutis Kudzmanas.
