Minister Landsbergis spoke to US Secretary of State Blinken over the phone
On the evening of 3 January, Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis spoke by telephone with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the Foreign Ministers of the Bucharest Nine (B9) countries.
The conversation with the B9 allies - Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary was initiated by the US Secretary of State, and was devoted to the topic of the security situation in NATO's eastern flank and Ukraine.
During the conversation the head of Lithuanian diplomacy noted the importance of a unified response to the threats posed by Russia. "No country has a veto over independent states and their sovereign choices. "Russia must fulfill its obligations under international law to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and to renounce ultimatums and threats or the use of force," he said.
The Foreign Minister emphasized the need to strengthen NATO's deterrence and defense measures in the Eastern flank of the Alliance, while taking into account the deepening military integration between Russia and Belarus. The Minister stressed the need to continue practical and political support for Ukraine.
Gabrielius Landsbergis also thanked the United States for their solidarity and support for Lithuania in the face of China's political and economic pressure.
