Bulgarian President and EU Ambassadors Discuss War, EU Economy and Euro Area Membership

Deputy Ambassador Erikas Petrikas took part in a meeting with H.E. President Rumen Radev and the ambassadors from EU member states to Bulgaria on June 20.

President Rumen Radev and the EU ambassadors in Bulgaria discussed the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as the prospects for the EU economy and Bulgaria’s anticipated transition to the euro.

The meeting occurred just before the conclusion of Poland’s six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union and was hosted at the Polish Embassy in Sofia. The diplomats addressed concerns regarding the military actions occurring near Europe and their repercussions, as well as international issues and matters of current significance to Bulgarian society. Radev referred to the ongoing wars in the Middle East and Ukraine as significant threats to global security, necessitating sustained efforts to stop the fighting and diplomatically resolve the respective situations.

“Each of these conflict zones poses a risk of escalation and even greater devastation and loss of life, making it essential to align the EU and US strategies to resolve these conflicts as quickly as possible.”
