In Bucharest: preparations for the NATO summit
Wednesday, November 4, Bucharest – President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with the leaders of eight Baltic and Central European countries to exchange views on preparations for the upcoming NATO summit as well as to discuss the implementation of the Wales agreements reached a year ago and NATO’s further defense and deterrence steps to ensure the security of the region. Taking part at the summit was the NATO Deputy Secretary General, Alexander Vershbow.
The leaders of the nine Baltic and Central European countries in Bucharest agreed to make a joint effort to ensure long-term deployment of NATO’s allied forces and military equipment in the region and regular updates of defense plans. Improving the decision-making procedures and reducing response time will also be on top of the agenda.
