The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Romania hosted a concert by the Baltic Guitar Quartet at the Athenaeum concert hall in Bucharest to mark Lithuania’s State Restoration Day on February 16.
On February 11, in the heart of Bucharest at the prestigious Athenaeum hall, the Baltic Guitar Quartet delivered an exceptional concert celebrating the Republic of Lithuania’s National Day and the 1918 anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania’s statehood. The event was made possible through the close collaboration and meticulous preparation of the entire Embassy team in Romania, and the Embassy is delighted by the large attendance and the warm reception of the performance.
The Baltic Guitar Quartet, one of the most prominent guitar ensembles in the Baltic region, was founded in 2004 and has since actively toured Lithuania and abroad, presenting audiences with a broad repertoire ranging from Renaissance works to contemporary and original compositions. The current lineup took shape in 2008 when Belgian guitarist Chris Ruebens joined Zigmas Čepulenas, Sergej Krinicin, and Sauliui S. Lipčius, whose compositions have become a key element of the ensemble’s identity. The quartet has earned numerous awards, performed in renowned concert halls across Europe and beyond, and is celebrated for its sensitive, colourful, and refined interpretations. By harnessing music as a universal language, the performers in Bucharest once again highlighted the power of culture to foster mutual understanding and friendship between nations.
The Embassy extends its sincere thanks to the members of the Baltic Guitar Quartet - Zigmui Čepulėnui, Sergej Krinicin, Sauliui S. Lipčiui ir Chris Ruebens - for their professional, heartfelt, and inspiring concert, which served as the evening’s highlight and a meaningful cultural bridge between Lithuania and Romania.
In his welcoming speech, Lithuania’s Ambassador to Romania, A. Žurauskas, emphasised: “Today, as we mark our National Day, we also celebrate the long-standing friendship between Lithuania and Romania - a friendship spanning more than a century of diplomatic relations. It is a friendship we can truly take pride in. Romania never recognised the illegal annexation of the Republic of Lithuania, and we greatly value this principled stance.”
The Ambassador also underscored shared values and partnership within the European Union, stating: “Our countries, together with our partners, stand side by side as part of the great European family, guided by the same fundamental values and jointly pursuing a peaceful and prosperous future for Europe.”
