Arvydas Pocius, the new Ambassador of Lithuania in Romania met with State Secretary George Ciamba
Wednesday 8 October 2014 State Secretary for European Affairs George Ciamba received Ambassador Agréé of the Republic of Lithuania to Romania Arvydas Pocius on the occasion of his presenting his letters of credence.
Secretary for European Affairs George Ciamba congratulated the Lithuanian Ambassador Agréé for his appointment and wished him full success in his mandate, at the same time ensuring him of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' support for his activity in Romania.
During the meeting the status of bilateral relations was discussed, as well as topics of common interest on a EU level, and current aspects on the international agenda.
The excellent level of bilateral political cooperation was saluted, and, in this context, satisfaction was expressed at the unprecedented liaison between the two countries during Lithuania's role in the rotating Presidency of the European Union Council. The calendar of future meetings was revised and the opportunities for political, economic and EU cooperation enhancement was assessed.
Other topics were also discussed, such as energy security, the parties agreeing over the importance of supply sources for the countries that depend on one single supplier.
The parties agreed that, giving the current international situation, it is necessary to make a collective effort to ensure security and presented the efforts that Romania and Lithuania are making to implement the growth agreement for the budget allotted to defense expenses, which reaches 2% of the GDP.
